Holiday Toy & Gift Drive
Last December, a small gathering of our New York Times Neediest Cases families was held at FPWA. The families, who were “adopted” by generous donors, were receiving holiday gifts. A staff member performed magic tricks, turning a dime into a quarter for an eight-year old twin being raised by elderly grandparents. As the family was leaving, the child turned to the “magician” and held out the quarter. He was told to keep it; maybe next year it would turn into a dollar. Solemnly, the child gestured towards the bags of gifts his family was taking home and said,“It’s okay. I have all this stuff. Give the quarter to someone who really needs it.” As everyone’s eyes grew moist, we knew that this child had provided a moment of incredible grace for all of us.
Be a part of this grace by donating generously to FPWA’s 2008 Holiday Toy & Gift Drive. For the 60,000 children we serve, in families struggling to meet basic needs, the holidays can be a bleak time without your generosity. Will you please help? Since 1922, our annual, Holiday Toy & Gift Drive has made sure that joy greets thousands of disadvantaged children in the New York metropolitan area on Christmas morning. Thanks to your generosity we provided new toys, clothing and books to thousands of needy children throughout New York City last year.
