Who can join our network?

Membership in the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies is open to voluntary nonprofit organizations that meet the following requirements:

  • The agency is a duly incorporated 501(c)(3) organization;
  • Maintains an effective program designed to meet a recognized need for health and welfare services;
  • Has a responsible and active governing board that:
    a) exercises overall responsibility for the development and implementation of the agency's policies, programs, and
    b) avails itself of adequate representation from the community it serves;
    c) meets with sufficient regularity to discharge its duties and responsibilities;
  • Is governed by by-laws and other rules which adequately state the purpose of the agency and the duties and functions of its governing body, committee and officers;
  • A competent executive officer is empowered to direct its work,and a staff qualified by training and experience in accordance with the agency purpose;
  • Has adequate physical facilities and equipment for the services rendered;
  • Adheres to standards of service established by recognized standard-setting bodies in those areas in which the agency operates. Has a financial program adequate for the agency's support, and sound economic policies and procedures in the conduct of its operations;
  • Follows policies assuring racial integration in the areas of client groups served, staff employment/utilization and composition of boards and committees.
