Camp Scholarships

"“The Federation of Protestant Welfare Agency and Camp Herrlich have been in partnership for many years. Because of the camp scholarships we receive from FPWA we are able to make a difference in the life of a child. At Camp, children learn many things about themselves: that they are valuable, creative, fun loving, capable of sharing their ideas and their dreams. They learn about other children; that everyone loves to laugh, to sing, to play, and to grow despite the differences in the color of your skin, the way you speak, or where you live. Children will learn about the world: that people can all get along together, that we all want love, and to be accepted, and that it really is a small world. The minute they step onto the grounds of Camp Herrlich, or any camp program, they are accepted as family… they are introduced to other individuals and treated with respect…they are expected to treat others as they want to be treated…they are measured by what they put out to the world…and they receive kindness and love in return. The FPWA and Camp Herrlich partnership is about what we can do together to make a difference in the lives of children and to improve the condition of Gods greater, global world that we are all a part of and to which we have the ultimate responsibility."
- Robert Gentile, Executive Director, Camp Herrlich
Summer camp is the opportunity for children to meet, and spend time with, a variety of other children, and adults, learning and growing together. The camp scholarships offer financially disadvantaged families the opportunity to participate in experiences that focus on their self esteem and confidence as they explore and broaden their interaction with other cultures and develop new skills and friendships.

FPWA offers member agencies that operate day or sleep away camps the opportunity to apply for camp scholarships. Once granted, agencies can decide how to allocate partial scholarships to applicants to their camp. The families that qualify will have children between the ages of 5 and 14, are financially needy and have completed the camp application process. All camp scholarships will be awarded directly to the sleep away and day camps who will then decide which families will be the recipients of the scholarships.

The number of camp scholarships offered by each member agency camp will be determined by the camp. Member agencies are encouraged to attend the Camp Forum that is hosted by FPWA in April/May to share ideas, make contacts, and submit a final application for camp scholarships. Member agencies that do not operate camps will benefit from participating in the meeting by networking and securing possible slots for some of the children they work with.
