Assisting Those in Need
Financial Assistance and Information and Referral
Financial Assistance FPWA distributes financial assistance to people throughout the New York City area who meet specific eligibility criteria. Most grants cover rent and utility arrears; applicants must be able to document their need, that it is a one-time occurrence, and that they can currently pay their bills on their own. When funds are available, FPWA can also pay for one-time essential items such as beds, heavy duty cleaning, security deposits and moving expenses. FPWA conducts a financial literacy class, which may be required as part of the application process. For more information and application procedures, contact Susana Verdejo, Administrative Assistant of the Financial Assistance ph.(212) 801-1330. FPWA also operates a senior stipend program – ongoing financial assistance to seniors who meet certain criteria. The program enables seniors to remain in their homes. Openings in the program are infrequent. For more information, contact Judy Milone ph.(212) 801-1350. Information & Referral FPWA provides information and referral to social service staff and people in the general public who are looking for community resources and services such as, but not limited to, counseling, home care, case management and eviction prevention programs. We can also answer basic questions about public entitlements such as public assistance, Medicaid and social security benefits. Inquiries can be directed to Judy Milone ph.(212) 801-1350 or Kim Lerner ph.(212) 801-1338. Back
