Early Childhood Quality Assurance Initiatives

“We want parents to care about quality and to understand what makes a quality program. By being an NAEYC accredited program, with the support of FPWA’s QNY project, we are able to educate families about accreditation and what quality early education looks like.”
- Jeannette Corey, Director of Early Childhood Services, Phipps Head Start

FPWA assists New York City early care and education programs in improving teaching and administrative practices in order to reach the high-quality national standards established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We uses the NAEYC self-study and accreditation process as a guide for child care, Early Head Start, Head Start and private early education programs to improve. As an accreditation facilitation project, we help program staff, parents and public officials to better understand the value of program standards and working together toward continuous quality improvement.

FPWA is proud to be a founding partner in the Quality New York collaborative. Since 2002, more than half of the 83 programs assisted by QNY in achieving NAEYC accreditation are FPWA member agency early care and education programs.
