Carlos Anthony was recommended for the FPWA College Scholarship in 2014 by FPWA member agency Henry Street Settlement. At the time, Carlos was a senior at Brooklyn College majoring in broadcast journalism and was the Program and Sports Director for WBCR Brooklyn College Radio. Since graduating with his bachelor’s degree, Carlos has been living his dream, interning and working for numerous New York broadcasting stations such as WFAN, WCBS-FM, WNEW, and WBMP. Outside of mainstream radio, Carlos found his calling to work in Christian radio, volunteering for stations like K-LOVE and Star 99.1. He also attended Primitive Christian Church in the Lower East Side, where he served as an audio/visual tech and social media manager. Most recently, Carlos, a native New Yorker, moved to Nashville, Tennessee to join WAY MEDIA NETWORK, Contemporary Christian WAY-FM as their Operations Coordinator/Night Show Producer.
We are immensely proud of all that Carlos has accomplished and wish him the best in all of his future endeavors.
Hyisheem was recommended for the FPWA College Scholarship in 2014 by FPWA member agency Hudson Guild. At the time, Hyisheem was a senior at Virginia State University and president of the Student Government Association. That following year, Mr. Calier graduated from VSU and has since went on to receive his MSW from Radford University. Currently, he is working at Brooklyn Defender Services as a Forensic Social Worker in the Criminal Adolescent Practice. Additionally, Hyisheem was recently accepted into Law School.
Hyisheem was also one of six young people featured in a HBO documentary entitled Class Divide, which premiered in Oct 2016, and highlights the recent effects of hyper-gentrification in New York City’s West Chelsea, focusing on an intersection where an elite private school (Avenues: The World School) sits directly across the street from New York City public housing projects. Using his experiences, Hyisheem has launched a career in motivational speaking.
We wish him the best as he continues his educational journey.

You were part of my road to success. As a youth member from DeWitt Reformed Church I was honored and grateful to be a recipient of the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies’ 2017-2018 college scholarship. Thank you to the staff of FPWA, especially to Mrs. Hatwood, Mrs. McDermott, and to the donors who helped to make the scholarship I received possible.
