Advocacy Coalitions

FPWA leads and co-leads a number of advocacy coalitions and task forces with our member agencies and community partners to engage in strategic policy advocacy work.

We are known as an organization that brings people together on critical issues and galvanizes unified action to address root problems. Below are the wide-range of coalitions and task forces that FPWA coordinates.

Campaign for Children (C4C)

  • FPWA serves of the Steering Committee on the Campaign for Children, and co-chairs the Mobilization Committee and participates in the Government Relations Committee.

Economic Justice and Social Welfare Network (EJSWN) (formerly the Welfare Reform Network)

  • EJSWN, sponsored by FPWA, is a coalition of organizations and individuals that advocates for humane income security policies, founded in 1989 in response to welfare reform.  As we have seen income inequality grow, the group has expanded from its original focus on welfare issues to include a broad range of policies around economic equity, earned and unearned income, poverty alleviation, and economic mobility.  EJSWN strives to provide space for advocates to come together across sectors to address issues of economic justice through information sharing, policy advocacy, and creative collaboration.

EJSWN holds monthly general membership meetings at FPWA.

Empire State Economic Security (ES2) Campaign

  • FPWA is a member of the ES2 Campaign, a statewide coalition of over 200 social service providers, faith based groups, and concerned citizens coming together to improve the lives of low and moderate income New Yorkers by challenging state leaders to make better choices for our families. Specifically, ES2 promotes ongoing access to education and training; good jobs for all; affordable, high quality health care; income security for all; decent, affordable housing; high quality, affordable child care; and affordable, accessible transportation.

Federal Tax and Budget Response Team

  • The Federal Tax and Budget Response Team is a state-based coalition whose members include FPWA, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New York, UJA-Federation of New York, Fiscal Policy Institute, New York Housing Conference, LiveOn NY, Human Services Council of New York, United Neighborhood Houses, and more.
