FPWA Statement on the FY21 New York City Executive Budget

Today Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson announced the adoption of the FY2021 $88.1 million budget. We at FPWA appreciate that lost revenues due to COVID-19 required cuts in services and programs impacting all New Yorkers.  We also recognize that there were restorations and new investments made in services for youth and seniors, all made possible by the reinvestment of funds cut from the NYPD budget. While certainly not ideal, the budget agreement is indeed a reflection of the times in which we are living.

In the coming year the needs of low-income New Yorkers will only grow, in part because of the continuing fallout from COVID-19.  We aim to work with the Administration, City Council, and our member organizations to make sure no New Yorkers fall further behind and resources are used to help lift them up.
