In 2019 and 2020, human services nonprofits, advocates, policymakers, and the media turned to our fiscal policy team’s analyses of every twist and turn in the federal budget process. The original Funds Tracker initially tracked federal funding to four human services agencies: The Children’s Services (ACS), Department of Social Services/Human Resource Administration (DSS), Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), and Department for the Aging (DFTA)
The Funds Tracker analyzed city and state in addition to federal funding provided to eight human service agencies.
The Funds Tracker now called the NYC Funds Tracker takes a comprehensive look at New York City’s funding – examining all revenue streams and exploring the City’s expenditure decisions. Looking at revenue and expenditure together can expore changing city priorities.
This year, we released the NYC Funds Tracker 2.0, which includes a number of improvements to the original dashboard:
The expansion of detailed data to all city agencies. This will allow users to get a fuller picture of the NYC budget, and make meaningful comparisons between any agency they choose.
The addition of more granular information on taxes and spending. Users can now explore not only what agencies the government is allocating its money on, but also on what specific expenses and services these agencies are purchasing. For example, users can now explore how City expenditure on staffing has changed over time.
New and improved user interface. We’ve also developed a new, user-friendly dashboard interface, which gives users more control than ever on the different ways they can slice the data.
