History of the NYC Funds Tracker

2019

In light of looming federal cuts to local funding, FPWA creates of the Funds Tracker

In 2019 and 2020, human services nonprofits, advocates, policymakers, and the media turned to our fiscal policy team’s analyses of every twist and turn in the federal budget process. The original Funds Tracker initially tracked federal funding to four human services agencies: The Children’s Services (ACS), Department of Social Services/Human Resource Administration (DSS), Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), and Department for the Aging (DFTA)

2023

Added City and State funding to the Funds Tracker

The Funds Tracker analyzed city and state in addition to federal funding provided to eight human service agencies.

2024

FPWA released a new interactive dashboard to engage transparency and understanding of NYC's budget process

The Funds Tracker now called the NYC Funds Tracker takes a comprehensive look at New York City’s funding – examining all revenue streams and exploring the City’s expenditure decisions. Looking at revenue and expenditure together can expore changing city priorities.

2025

This year, we released the NYC Funds Tracker 2.0, which includes a number of improvements to the original dashboard:

  • The expansion of detailed data to all city agencies. This will allow users to get a fuller picture of the NYC budget, and make meaningful comparisons between any agency they choose.

  • The addition of more granular information on taxes and spending. Users can now explore not only what agencies the government is allocating its money on, but also on what specific expenses and services these agencies are purchasing. For example, users can now explore how City expenditure on staffing has changed over time.

  • New and improved user interface. We’ve also developed a new, user-friendly dashboard interface, which gives users more control than ever on the different ways they can slice the data.

FPWA has recently been receiving claims from members of the public emailing and calling our offices that individuals posing as FPWA agents have contacted them claiming that in order for the recipient to claim grant monies from FPWA they must first send the agent personal information, a cell phone number, gift card codes or money.

FPWA does not use social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), text messages or direct phone contact to solicit, review, or make awards. FPWA staff will not call or message you requesting money in order to be eligible for an award.

Further, FPWA does not make grants directly to individuals. FPWA works with its member agency partners and other reputable community-based organizations to direct support to families and individuals in our community.

If you or someone you know has been contacted by someone posing to be an “FPWA Agent” or staff person requesting money to release a grant, please do the following:
