NEW YORK, NY (September 3 , 2026) – The Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies (FPWA) has awarded $64,000 in Educational Opportunity Scholarships to 16 New York City students pursuing higher education and vocational training.
Each student will receive a $4,000 scholarship to help reduce the financial barriers that can make it difficult to persist in college and complete a degree or professional credential.
This year’s recipients were referred through 11 FPWA member organizations: Asian Americans for Equality; Bedford Stuyvesant; The Brotherhood Sister Sol; DeWitt Reformed Church; East Side Settlement; Forestdale; Goddard Riverside; Graham Windham; Henry Street Settlement; New Beginnings; and Zeina Lorraine Inc.
The scholars attend 14 institutions: Baruch College; Borough of Manhattan Community College; Bryant & Stratton College; CUNY School of Professional Studies; Fordham University; Hampton University; Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work; John Jay College of Criminal Justice; Lehman College; New York University; SUNY Oneonta; SUNY Oswego; Syracuse University; and the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
For more than a century, FPWA has worked to expand opportunity and advance economic security for New Yorkers. The Educational Opportunity Scholarship reflects that commitment by investing directly in students at a critical point in their educational journeys.
