FPWA CONTINUES ITS 100-YEAR FIGHT FOR ECONOMIC EQUITY BY AWARDING 16 SCHOLARSHIPS TO COLLEGE STUDENTS ACROSS NEW YORK CITY
New York, NY (August 9, 2022) – FPWA announced today that they are awarding $40,000 in college scholarships to sixteen low-income junior and senior college students to support them through graduation.
For 100 years, FPWA has been committed to paving the way for New Yorkers to achieve economic prosperity. The Educational Opportunity Scholarships is one of many efforts at FPWA that advances economic equity by helping remove some financial barriers that often prevent our city’s youth from reaching degree completion.
“FPWA is deeply committed to economic security and mobility for all New Yorkers. It is well known that education – especially obtaining a post-secondary degree – is a key factor in that mobility,” says Raysa S. Rodriguez, Chief Program and Policy Officer at FPWA. “We are proud to play a part in supporting the educational journey of 16 talented and dedicated young people through our scholarship program. FPWA awards these scholarships by working directly with advocates from our member organizations that are located throughout New York City. In order to support degree/certification completion, FPWA’s scholarships are reserved for students who are: Entering either their Junior or Senior year of a 4-year College or University (or qualify as a college Junior or Senior based on credits earned), entering their final year of an Associate’s Degree program at a Community College or entering an Accredited Vocational or Trade School.
This year’s scholars study many topics, ranging from psychology, teaching, social services, medicine, and business and will use the money to cover books, transportation, software, tuition, and other education related costs.
